The secretarial role is the backbone of the company that enables management to perform their work effectively and without time wastage. They have the responsibility of implementing and co-coordinating various office processes.
Your secretarial resume can become more powerful and effective by focusing on your organizational skills and a wide range of other skills that the employer would find beneficial.
Try not to include skills that are too general, such as answering phone calls, typing letters, making copies and filing documents…anybody can do these simple tasks! Make sure that you focus on specific skills that may not be present with competing candidates, such as proficiencies with software packages.
You should also mention any training undertaken in your resume. The role does not generally require specific qualifications, so any certificates, diplomas or degrees that you posess will be looked upon favorably.
Last but not least, include a good list of references. Employers look for secretaries with a can-do attitude, and as such will most likely call your referees to discuss your performance and general attitude in previous roles. A glowing reference could be the critical point that separates you from the crowd.
